The Company
Our client, a well-established boutique law firm with approximately 70 staff and have been providing premium legal services for over 50 years. They are seeking an experienced Finance Manager to oversee financial operations on a part-time basis. This role is ideal for a finance professional looking for flexibility while maintaining a high-impact position within a dynamic and professional environment.

The Role
Reporting directly to the Partners, the Finance Manager will be responsible for the firm’s financial management, compliance, and reporting functions. Key responsibilities include:
Finance & Accounting
  • Liaise with banks to set up and manage financial facilities as required.
  • Maintain office and trust accounts in compliance with regulations.
  • Oversee daily processing of accounting transactions, accounts payable, and controlled money reconciliations.
  • Conduct various reconciliations, including trust balances and debtor management.
  • Manage payroll processing, PAYG remittance, and superannuation payments.
  • Complete and submit BAS, WorkCover remuneration returns, and payroll tax returns.
  • Prepare budgets, cash flow forecasts, and financial reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Liaise with external accountants and auditors for annual financials, FBT, and trust audits.
  • Support insurance renewals, including PI, building, and other insurances.
  • Prepare reports on billable hours and assess staff performance based on financial metrics.
Team Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Manage and mentor the accounts team
  • Supervise a billing assistant and oversee the preparation of monthly billing reports.
  • Respond to escalated finance queries from lawyers and team members.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and audit requirements.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Experience in a similar Finance Manager role, ideally within a legal or professional services environment.
  • Strong knowledge of trust accounting principles and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Leadership abilities to manage and mentor a small finance team.
  • High attention to detail and a proactive approach to financial management.
