About the Organisation

Ipswich City Council is the local government authority for the City of Ipswich, Queensland’s oldest provincial city and one of Australia’s fastest growing and most vibrant regions. Council’s strategic leadership is provided by an elected mayor and eight councillors who serve to deliver transparent, accountable, and effective local governance to the city. Council’s daily operational work is carried out by more than 1500 dedicated and skilled council employees working across a variety of specialist teams and locations. Ipswich is a wonderful region with a rich history – engaged local Indigenous communities, a remarkable recent industrial past, a very strong civic culture, and glorious natural and physical environments.

The City of Ipswich is in a transformational era. Historically the manufacturing centre of Queensland, the region is experiencing an economic, demographic and paradigm shift towards a modern, dynamic, and innovative region driven by a booming aspirational population. This rapid and unprecedented growth presents a critical window of opportunity for investment in city-shaping infrastructure and policy reform that will enable a connected, prosperous, and liveable South-East Queensland region.

About the Position

Reporting directly to Chief Executive Officer, the General Manager, Asset, and Infrastructure Services will be responsible for planning, delivering, and maintaining Council’s assets and infrastructure including built facilities, open spaces, roads and drainage, urban forests, and natural areas.  Specifically, this will include maintaining positive and productive relationships with elected representatives, the executive leadership team and broader organisation including a geographically dispersed workforce while creating a dynamic atmosphere of continuous improvement and a safety-first culture.

Essential to your success will be the delivery of value for money services that meet community expectations and building effective professional networks with government and industry stakeholders to manage risk and identify opportunities for collaboration. Key priorities to be achieved include the implementation of Council’s Infrastructure Plan and City-Wide Capital Works Program and continued implementation of the Effective Asset Management Project. These projects will be underpinned by supporting internal initiatives focused on improving employee experience (EX) and contributing to Council’s Customer Experience (CX) strategy.

About the Person

We are seeking a highly visible, empathetic, ethical and customer focused leader who possesses significant experience in a similar sized or larger organisation, ideally within a government environment and/or private sector organisation that delivers a range of services to its customers. You will have previously overseen a large and diverse workforce and possess demonstrated success in lifting organisational performance through prudent risk-based decision making. Superior negotiation, consultation, interpersonal and communication skills are considered essential, and a relevant professional qualification/substantial equivalent experience and post graduate qualification would be advantageous.
