Our client carefully manages risk and takes positions in diverse assets and debt classes, including across global equities and fixed income. In additional, our client has the capability to undertake principal and direct investment strategies and holds significant Melbourne real estate assets. The group employees approximately 40 people, the large majority of whom are based in Melbourne. Our client is currently undergoing an exciting period of transformation and change. To that end, we are seeking an experienced and highly skilled technical accounting professional to join the organisation in a newly created and pivotal role, Financial Accounting Manager.
The Role
The Financial Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing the Group’s accounting operations, including overseas entities. This role is dedicated to ensuring a robust process and control environment, full compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, advising the Group on technical accounting matters, delivering accurate and timely reporting, and continuously strengthening the function through targeted process improvements.
Reporting directly to the Finance Director, your key responsibilities will include:
- Financial Reporting: Ensuring the completeness and accuracy of general ledger balances for all entities and preparing accurate financial statements and reports, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations
- Management Reporting: Ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the management and board reporting across the Group
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Developing budgets for operational entities, forecasting future financial performance, and monitoring variances
- Internal Controls: Implementing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial accuracy
- Process Improvement and Automation: Driving the re-engineering of financial systems and processes to support the efficient automation of processes and the maintenance of financial control mechanism
We are seeking expressions of interest from applicants that have (all, most or some of) the following attributes/experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in commerce, accounting or a related field
- CA/CPA qualified
- Big 4 audit / assurance background (preferred)
- Proven working experience as a Financial Accounting Manager or similar role
- Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, including the practical application and implementation of Standards, including AASB 16 Leases in particular
- Experience in developing templates and preparing statutory financial statements in accordance with the measurement and disclosure requirements of Australian Accounting Standards and the Australian Corporations Act 2001
- Experience in change management and implementing targeted process improvements
- Experience dealing with international financial markets, financial instruments and/or investment accounting (highly regarded)
- Advanced MS Excel skills and strong MS Office skills
