About the role:We are seeking an experienced Safety Operations Manager to lead the health and safety initiatives across multiple facilities in Australia. This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with national and state health and safety regulations, including Work Health and Safety (WHS) standards, and maintaining a safe environment for all employees. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in safety management within the food manufacturing industry in Australia, a strong understanding of WHS legislation, and experience with HACCP and other food safety standards. The Safety Operations Manager will work to create a culture of safety across all facilities by implementing effective safety programs and policies. Key Responsibilities: Develop and Implement Safety Programs: Design and implement WHS-compliant safety programs tailored to the needs of each facility, ensuring alignment with federal, state, and local regulations, including Safe Work Australia standards. Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions. Ensure comprehensive hazard analyses are conducted at all sites. Policy Development: Establish and maintain health and safety policies and procedures that meet Australian industry standards, including AS/NZS 4801, ISO 45001, and HACCP requirements for food safety. Training and Education: Develop and oversee WHS training programs for employees, including induction training, job-specific training, and ongoing safety refreshers. Ensure all staff are aware of and compliant with safety protocols. Incident Response and Investigation: Respond to workplace incidents, conduct thorough investigations, and document findings. Implement corrective actions and track results to prevent recurrence. Data Analysis and Reporting: Regularly track safety performance metrics and report to senior management. Prepare and submit required WHS compliance reports and updates. Leadership and Collaboration: Mentor and support facility-based safety officers and managers. Partner with operations, HR, and quality assurance to ensure an integrated approach to safety. Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement safety program improvements, including adopting best practices and leveraging employee feedback to strengthen the safety culture. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field. 7+ years of experience in safety management within the Australian food manufacturing industry. Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, Safe Work Australia guidelines, and food safety requirements, including HACCP. Certifications such as the Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety, WHS Officer, or relevant industry certifications. Exceptional leadership and communication skills. Proficiency in safety management software and reporting tools. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and generate insights.
