Sharp & Carter is proud to be exclusively partnering with an established Melbourne based specialist hedge fund. Our client carefully manages risk and takes positions in diverse assets and debt classes, including across global equities and fixed income. In additional, our client has the capability to undertake principal and direct investment strategies and holds significant Melbourne real estate assets.  The group employees approximately 40 people, the large majority of whom are based in Melbourne. Our client is currently undergoing an exciting period of transformation and change. To that end, we are seeking an experienced and highly skilled tax professional to join the organisation in a newly created and pivotal role, Tax and Reporting Manager.
  
The Role
The Tax and Reporting Manager will be responsible for managing tax obligations and producing various reporting for the Group, including overseas entities. This role will ensure full compliance with Australian and US tax laws and regulations, develop robust tax management frameworks, advise the Group in relation to tax matters, deliver accurate and timely reporting and work to streamline and automate tax and reporting processes.

Reporting directly to the Finance Director, your key responsibilities will include:
  • Ensuring full compliance with Australian tax laws and regulations, including preparation and filing of Income Tax Returns, BAS lodgements, FBT returns, PAYG instalment calculations and Transfer Pricing Policies
  • Preparing schedules for US tax and WHT filings and review of returns prepared by offshore advisors
  • Forecasting tax liabilities, including preparation of Weekly Tax Summary and booking of tax provisions
  • Developing and maintaining tax plans, timetables, compliance procedures and risk assessment frameworks, to ensure effective tax management
  • Understanding legislative taxation changes, including providing a quarterly report to the Group outlining key changes and the potential impact on the Group
  • Preparing monthly management reporting and quarterly Board reporting (for allocated entities)
  • Preparing annual statutory financial statements
  • Ad-hoc work / projects, as required
The Person
We are seeking expressions of interest from applicants that have (all, most or some of) the following attributes/experience:
  • Dual bachelor’s degree in commerce/ accounting and law
  • Big 4 experience working within Tax (preferred)
  • Full CA qualification with an additional Masters of Tax (or partial completion) preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in tax management, including Australian and International tax
  • Experience in completing ATO International Dealing Schedules
  • Strong understanding of Australian tax laws, including GST, FBT, and corporate income tax
  • Ability to analyse financial data and understand its tax implications
  • Ability to explain complex tax concepts in simple terms to colleagues and external advisors
