About the position
The Service Manager Island Operations is a newly-created leadership position reporting to the Group Manager City Operations. The role has been created to bring a more wholistic approach to managing maintenance services across the island communities. North Stradbroke Island and the Southern Moreton Bay Islands are both popular tourist destinations, as well as being home to vibrant and growing residential communities with a diverse range of community and arts facilities, and recreational and marine activities. The role will manage a team based on North Stradbroke Island (NSI) and a team based on the Southern Moreton Bay Islands (SMBI) which is made up of Russell Island, Macleay Island, Karragarra Island and Lamb Island.  On SMBI the main depot is on Russell Island with a support depot on Macleay.

The role of the operational teams based on the islands is to deliver maintenance of civil assets such as managing drainage scours and batter protection, repairing failing pavement and ensuring boardwalk integrity. The team also ensures parks, playgrounds and turfed areas are well presented and free of litter and hazards,  and oversees management of trees and conservation spaces. The team also provides after hours support to the community in response to operational issues during significant weather and storm events. This role may require some limited after hours work but the main focus is to ensure systems and processes are in place to ensure teams working after hours remotely are supported including having the right mobile communications and equipment.

Other departments of Redland City Council deliver a wide range of services to the islands including community services and recreation services planning and delivery, and the design and building of new assets. This operations and maintenance role will work closely with other areas of Council to support delivery of outcomes for the islands. The role will apply its knowledge of the islands to assist in advocacy of island issues to relevant stakeholders to influence plans and outcomes.
