The Role

Reporting to the Executive Manager - Finance & Operations, the Financial Controller is responsible for the ‘day-to-day’ financial leadership of the finance function and is a key member of the leadership team. The role is to lead the organisation’s finance function and to proactively support continued business improvement and success across the areas of financial control, reporting and commercial operations. 

On a day to day basis, you will be responsible for:
  • In consultation with the Leadership Team, have responsibility for financial management functions and frameworks, developing and implementing the organisation’s financial strategy and driving its budgeting and planning process
  • Manage and lead a small team, including providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioural standards, managing performance, delegating responsibility and guiding and developing people
  • Provide high-level analysis, commercial insights and expert financial management advice to the organisation
  • Assist in long-term strategic planning, formulate sound financial strategies to support company growth and build its capability in making use of financial information to inform decision-making
  • Have oversight of the management of expenditure for the organisation, undertake financial forecasting and prepare budget projections for the upcoming financial year
  • Be responsible for the accurate collation, preparation and interpretation of reports, budgets, accounts, commentaries and financial statements in accordance with accounting standards
  • Develop financial strategies, including making recommendations for risk minimisation plans and opportunity forecasting
  • Lead the design and implementation of financial controls, systems and policies, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and industry sector financial and legal requirements
  • Design and implement effective approaches to managing financial risk and ensure the improvement and maintenance of internal systems and processes that will increase compliance with financial regulations and requirements
  • Ensure timely completion of month end processes and adherence to statutory requirements and obligations associated with BAS, FBT, PAYG, and GST.
Qualifications & Requirements
Ideally CA / CPA qualified, you will have demonstrated extensive experience in a leadership and financial control. You have strong attention to detail and have the ability to motivate and lead the finance department, effectively creating a business partnering environment to assist in commercial decision-making. You will be hands on in nature and your excellent interpersonal and communication skills give you the confidence to engage and influence those above and below you and across the organisation. You have strong commitment to ongoing personal development and improvement of processes, and aspire to value-add in your next long-term career step. Candidates with previous experience working within a similar role within a RTO provider are strongly encouraged to apply and will be given priority.
