About the Role:
We are partnering with a leading provider of smart logistics solutions to recruit an experienced Engineering Manager. This company operates one of Australia’s most critical terminals and is heavily investing in future automation projects.
We are seeking a dynamic Engineering Manager to lead the Maintenance and Engineering functions, ensuring the safe, productive, and efficient operation of the terminal.
Position Purpose:
As the Engineering Manager, you will oversee the strategic management of the Maintenance and Engineering teams, driving operational excellence and ensuring compliance with safety standards. You will play a key role in overseeing both business-as-usual operations and upcoming automation projects, contributing to the future success of this organization.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership & Team Management: Provide leadership, direction, and coaching to direct reports, including the Engineering Workshop Manager, Maintenance Engineer, and Engineering Planning Manager. Promote a positive workforce culture and ensure performance management for all team members.
  • Safety Management: Ensure full compliance with OHS&E statutory requirements. Lead by example in executing safe work practices, identifying and managing hazards to minimize risks.
  • Financial Management: Drive cost-efficiency across all operations. Set and exceed budget targets for operational costs and manage company resources in line with processes and policies.
  • Operational Excellence: Collaborate with the Operations team to ensure the smooth functioning of equipment and systems. Oversee the maintenance of heavy equipment and automated machinery, ensuring scheduled and unscheduled maintenance plans are executed effectively.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, suppliers, unions, regulators, and port authorities.
Key Relationships:
  • Internal: Operations Manager, General Manager of Operations, HSSE Manager, HR Manager, Shift Supervisors.
  • External: Contractors, Suppliers, Unions, Regulators, and Border Authorities.
Skills and Experience Required:
  • Qualifications: Tertiary engineering qualification or advanced trade qualification in mechanical or electrical discipline.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 10 years' experience in maintenance management, with extensive experience in managing heavy equipment workshops and automated machinery.
    • Proven leadership in large-scale, 24/7 operations, particularly within unionized environments.
    • Industrial relations management experience is essential.
    • Relevant experience within the logistics industry or a similar sector.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Strong financial acumen with experience in managing P&L responsibilities.
    • In-depth knowledge of heavy plant and equipment, as well as maintenance management plans and techniques.
    • Familiarity with Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
    • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
    • Ability to lead and motivate teams and drive process improvements.
