Sharp and Carter is looking for a Business analyst to Join a large Queensland State Government Department for a temporary contract through ti 30/06/2025. This role is based in Brisbane CBD and offers hybrid working conditions.
 
The department either utilises or is dependent on data from a number of core systems such as SAP, SAP Plant Maintenance, Agresso and One School to make informed decisions.  The department uses reporting tools such as Power BI in a disparate way. The availability and quality of data, information, analysis, reporting and ICT system functionality is vital for the operation of the department.  Given the scale of the department’s asset base and the quantum of information used across the organisation to manage all elements of infrastructure asset lifecycle, there is a need to clearly understand the sources, structure and use of data, the reporting requirements for all stakeholders and current pain points.  As such, the department is forming a small Project Team to leverage current data, finance, analytics, reporting, ICT capabilities & upcoming initiatives.
 
Role Requirements:
  • Play a key role in the research, analysis and evaluation of the department’s asset data sources, structures, governance, reporting and digital service management requirements.
  • Gathering, validating and documenting business and reporting requirements​
  • Analysing commercial data such as budgets, expenditure and forecasts
  • Modelling business processes and identifying opportunities for process improvements​.
  • Identifying issues, risks and benefits of existing and proposed solutions and outlining business impacts.
  • Creating functional specifications for solutions​.
  • Estimating costs and identifying business savings​.
  • Supporting business transition and helping to establish change.
  • Coordination of internal stakeholders and over site of the delivery of an Information and Technology road map that will be delivered by a professional services firm.
  • The drafting of briefing notes, presentations and memos to gain internal approvals for data, technology and analytics solution that best meet the needs of the department.
  • Engagement and collation of department scope of requirements for asset data analytics and reporting
  • Research and prepare draft reports, briefing materials and correspondence for submission to senior management.

  • Communication skills with effective stakeholder management & conflict resolution skills.
  • Requirement gathering is a key part of the role so the ability to ask the right questions and correctly understand the information received is essential
  • Excellent documentation and writing skills
  • The ability to present findings and recommendations to senior leaders and to manage stakeholder meetings
