About the Role:

They are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel (Employee Relations) to join its in-house legal team. This role is ideal for a legal professional with at least 5 years experience in employment law and employee relations, gained in a retail or corporate environment, or from a law firm with a strong HR/ER focus.

As Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for developing and implementing employee relations strategies across multiple international markets, ensuring compliance with employment laws, managing workplace investigations, and liaising with external regulators and legal advisors.

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Develop and implement an employee relations strategy across APAC markets.
  •  Provide expert legal advice on workplace and safety policy, compliance, and employment law trends.
  •  Support HR teams in handling performance management, misconduct, discrimination, and workplace disputes.
  •  Manage the enterprise bargaining process and employment-related aspects of business expansion.
  •  Act as a key liaison with regulatory bodies, unions, and external legal counsel.
  •  Oversee workplace litigation matters, including investigations and dispute resolution.
  •  Keep up to date with legislative changes to ensure ongoing compliance.
About you:
  • Admitted to practice in Australia 
  • At least 5 years PQE in a corporate in-house legal role or employment law practice.
  • Strong employment law and employee relations expertise
  • Current practising certificate (mandatory).
  • Experience in enterprise bargaining, workplace investigations, and dispute resolution.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Be prepared to be on site
